Children's Book Sale, Houston Public Library Recovery Fundraiser and Readathon!

We alongside our incredible community partners will be moving forward with our Children’s Book Sale & Readathon in an effort to support library recovery efforts and bring some literacy and light into our community! Proceeds from the book sales, and any donations made at the sale will go toward Houston Public Library Recovery Efforts.

We have been humbled by the generosity of our fellow Houstonians during this difficult time for the City, and we are here to support our neighbors by getting our Houston Public Libraries back up and running so they can get vital resources and programming back into the community.

IMPORTANT MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Hurricane Harvey recovery has impacted our community.  Friends of HPL are extending the special Friends Membership pricing to everyone shopping at this Saturday's book sale. No other membership discounts are applicable for this sale.

All individual books and AVs are selling for $2 or less, tax included for all shoppers.

We encourage our supporters to make a tax-deductible donation to Library Recovery efforts that will be used to replace damaged books and other essential items.

Friends of HPL Children's Book Sale

Enjoy our selection of 20,000 new and gently used books and AVs at our famous bargain prices. Join us September 9 from 9 AM - 4 PM at Hogg Middle School's Cafeteria.

Prices: Each book and AV is $2 or less, TAX INCLUDED.

Categories include: Board Books, Easy Readers, Children's Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Comic Books, Fiction, Mysteries & Thrillers, Art & Photography, Biographies & Memoirs, Education, History & Politics, Texana, Antiques, Health & Fitness, Audiobooks, CDs and DVDs and 15 other book categories you know and love!

Join UHD's Department of Urban Education in celebration of International Literacy Day for a read-aloud experience without borders! Students, teachers and community members will read aloud to children and adults the entire book sale!

UHD-Did You Know: Reading aloud to children helps develop language proficiency, increase vocabulary, understand story structure, and encourage a love for reading.  Children begin to comprehend the world around them as they listen to authentic stories and engage in texts that connect to their own experiences.

Book Art by Domestic Papers

Domestic Papers mixes Lee Steiner's lifelong love of books, papers, and anything vintage into a unique and fun 'mash-up' of handmade books that she is thrilled to share with you! Lee will have an array of book art and journals available for purchase both Saturday and Sunday.

We Need Volunteers!

We are 99% volunteer powered! And our book sales are run by our incredible volunteers 16 and up. We simply cannot do it without them! And you wouldn't be able to shop at these bargain prices if it weren't for them! So come, shop, celebrate and volunteer!


Parking & Location Information

The star is where the book sale is located. There will be signs leading you to the cafeteria from both parking lots and inside the building. Parking lots are indicated by the red lines below.
