A lot of people ask us how they can donate books for a variety of reasons like clearing out, scout or school book drives, or simply looking for a home for used books.
Our answer is always "THANK YOU!" Your book donation means a better sale. More community members have access to affordable books and we make more money for the Library. We can take any books in good condition (but not magazines).
If you can carry the bags or boxes, take them to your closest HPL branch with "TO THE FRIENDS" marked big on the outside (so the delivery team knows where they go).
If you have a bigger load, you are welcome to bring them to our warehouse at the intersection of Bingle and West Little York in the Chase Bank building. Open Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Please call before bringing donations(713-849-9330).
Plan a Book Drive!
To have a great book sale, we need a lot of books.
If you are looking for a great project, we would like to invite you to start a Book Drive. The Friends' Annual Book Sale is the most important way in which we raise money for the Library and provide affordable books for the community.
To have a sale as great as we do, we need a lot of books. You can help! A Book Drive is an excellent activity for groups or individuals:
- Clubs
- Offices
- Scouts (leadership badges!)
- Schools
- Communities
We will help you!
Let us know your plans, and we will be happy to talk to you about all the steps ahead of time. If your book drive is a group activity, we would love to talk to your organization about the Friends, the Book Drive, and how this is an important contribution.
Book Donation Policy
The Friends accepts any new or used books (hardback or paperback, adult or children, English or foreign language), videotapes, CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, and albums. We will take any book in any condition, except for books that have been chewed on or are exceptionally moldy or dusty.
